This letter was with respect to a policy initiative on the ongoing efforts
to restrict the deductibility of interest and other expenses. (read

This issue is of concern to the following respective organizations:
CREA; Canadian Brownfields Network; Toronto Board of Trade; Direct Sellers
Association; Canadian Institute of Mortgage Brokers and Lenders; Canadian
Association of Home and Property Inspectors; Canadian Federation of
Independent Business; and the Real Estate Institute of Canada;

2005 - CBN made a joint submission with the CUI to the House of Commons
Standing Committee on Finance recommending the deductibility of remediation
expenses from other income;
October
2005 - CBN joined with the Canadian Real Estate Association and other
stakeholders to submit a letter to Finance Minister Goodale to recommend
removal of proposed restrictions on the deductibility of interest and
other expenses;

that underscore community and set the tone for a longer-term process

Session/Announcement Brownfields Assume Centre Stage (December 16, 2005)
The Canadian Urban Institute presented, jointly with the Canadian Brownfields
Network (CBN), a Special Roundtable Breakfast where the Honourable John
Gerretsen, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, gave an update
on planning reform and brownfields redevelopment. The Minister announced
the launch of a new one-ticket window, www.brownfields.ontario.ca,
on the Ontario government website, and the appointment of a new Brownfields
Coordinator, Marcia Wallace.
Responses to Ontario Brownfield initiatives were provided by members
of the Canadian Brownfields Network Advisory panel: Angus Ross, Chair,
Canadian Brownfields Network Advisory Panel; Marguerite Ceschi-Smith,
Brantford Councillor and chair of AMO's new Brownfields taskforce; Ron
