  • Act as enabling mechanism to implement recommendations made by the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy for a national brownfields strategy
  • Deliver outreach and capacity-building initiatives to raise awareness on the benefits of brownfields redevelopment
  • Create linkages and connectivity between private industry, government agencies and non-governmental organizations
  • Consolidate regional and local issues into an integrated plan for national and provincial action

  • October 2005 - CBN joined with the Canadian Real Estate Association and other stakeholders to submit a letter to Finance Minister Goodale to recommend removal of proposed restrictions on the deductibility of interest and other expenses;

    Edmonton... Legislative amendments introduced in the Alberta Legislature on November 21st will ensure companies are able to access the land when additional cleanup work is required. Read the full article here.

  • Government of Canada awards $1.560 million to the Centre d'excellence de Montréal en réhabilitation de sites (CEMRS)
    The Honourable Jacques Saada, Minister of Canada Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Francophonie, today announced that the Centre d'excellence de Montréal en réhabilitation de sites (CEMRS) will receive $1.560 million to carry out a project aimed at finding technological solutions for the treatment of groundwater in Montréal's Technoparc district.   • Canadian Brownfields Conference 2005 and Brownie Awards
    The 2005 Conference was a great success with over 350 attendees. The workshop and speaker presentations along with the Brownie Award Winners and Finalist are accessible through the CBN website. Members must login to view or download presentations.
  • Brownfields Workshop in Banff:
    The CBN and aboutREMEDIATION hosted a brownfields workshop in Banff, AB, on Oct. 19, prior to the Remediation Technologies (RemTech) Symposium. Redevelopment Approaches, Tools and Best Practices was a half day workshop that allowed participants to learn about and gain practical insight into the challenge and the “triple bottom line” benefits of redeveloping brownfield sites.

  • Brownfields legislation and regulation update
    Notice of mandatory filing requirement for records of site condition and public notification requirements for certificates of property use. [Full article]
